Who We Are
We are the North American Waste Pickers Alliance. (NAWPA), a network of waste picker organizations based in the United States and Canada, formed in 2023. We form part of the International Alliance of Waste Pickers (IAWP). As a young network, we have four affiliate members and are working to grow in the years to come.
Our members are Sure We Can in New York City, Ground Score Association in Portland, the Binners’ Project in Vancouver, and Les Valoristes Coopérative de Solidarité in Montreal.
Our organizations, communities, and political contexts are different, but what unites us is a shared commitment to building the power and voice of waste pickers in the region to achieve a just transition to inclusive circular economy systems.
